
Hilgay Silver Band - 2008
Brief History of the Hilgay Silver Band
Hilgay Silver Band was founded in 1896. Originally formed by farmers
and land workers from the village and surrounding areas. The band has
improved over the years and has become one of Norfolk's premier bands.The
Silver Band competes each year at the East Anglian Spring Festival and
at the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, reaching
the National Finals at Wembley Conference Centre as well as the Symphony
Hall in Birmingham.
Location of the Hilgay Silver Band
Hilgay is a village in southwest Norfolk, about 15 miles south of King's
Lynn and 14 miles north of Ely.
The nearest town is Downham Market, 5 miles to the north.
Rehearsals and Musical Direction:
The current Hilgay Silver Band are a Section 4 band who as well as competing
periodically in national and East Anglian contests,
perform regularly at events in their local area.
Rehearsals are held on Monday and Thursday evenings between 7:30 pm
- 9:30 pm
in the bands own bandroom opposite the war memorial in Hilgay

Training Band Rehearsals:
The Hilgay Silver Band also runs a training band under the direction
of Brian Doy.
The training band is mainly but not entirely made up of youngsters.
The training band meets at 6:30 pm on Fridays.
Tuition is free and we will even lend you an instrument.
